A celebration to close the circle—the circular economy circle—and inaugurate a new Betty’s Garden.
It all started in 2023 when the Municipality of Lecco chose to join our project for the collection of end-of-life sports shoes across the city.
Twenty-eight schools and sports centers took part in the initiative; thanks to students, families, and athletes, they chose the path of recycling instead of the landfill for their old sports shoes.
A virtuous choice that allowed those materials to return to the local area in a different form.
At the ESO RECYCLING – Società Benefit arl plant, old sports shoes have become secondary raw material for the creation of flooring for the new inclusive playground within Nicholas Green Park on Via Pizzi in Lecco.
On Saturday, June 7, the ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by: Simona Piazza, Deputy Mayor of Lecco; Maria Sacchi, Councilor for Public Works, City Care, and Decor; Silvia Villa, President of the Soroptimist International Club of Lecco; Bruna Floreani, national representative of the “La città che vorrei” project and member of the Soroptimist Club of Milan “La Scala”; and Don Bortolo Uberti, Provost of Lecco.
Also present at the event were students from the De Amicis primary school, symbolically named “guardians of the park”: a gesture that entrusts the care and responsibility of this regenerated space to the new generations.
The project was made possible thanks to the collaboration between the Municipality of Lecco, Soroptimist Club Lecco, ESO RECYCLING, and the GOGREEN Onlus Association, with the active support of local schools, families, and sports organizations.
