esosport arrives in Besozzo (VA)

December 19, 2025 – The esosport project, an ESO RECYCLING brand founded in 2009 to promote environmental sustainability in sports and reduce the accumulation of sports waste in landfills, arrives in the Municipality of Besozzo, in the province of Varese.

With a network of over 300 points distributed throughout Italy, esosport collects sports shoes, bicycle inner tubes and tires, and tennis and padel balls that have reached the end of their life cycle.

What might seem like simple waste destined for a landfill finds new life in a different form with esosport, thanks to transformation at the ESO RECYCLING plant, which is also dedicated to recycling sports materials.

This is where new secondary raw material is born in the form of colored granules, giving life to new projects and initiatives focused on environmental sustainability, such as the creation of sports and playground flooring through the “Il Giardino di Betty” and “La pista di Filippide” initiatives.

The Municipality of Besozzo, sensitive to the issue of recycling and reducing waste at its collection center, has chosen to join the service and make it available to its citizens.

The initiative will last for three years and involves placing 2 esosport ESOboxes at the Waste Collection Center and the municipal gym.

“While visiting our collection center, I was struck by the significant number of sports shoes that ended up in the dry waste collection,” stated Gianluca Coghetto, Mayor of Besozzo. “Given that sports footwear is very common, especially among young people, and that our territory is also home to a running club that organizes provincial races, we wanted to find a way to put shoe waste back into circulation. Estimating that we have about 9,000 inhabitants, we could recover at least 5,000 sports shoes per year: esosport seemed like the right answer to our needs.”

From waste to new secondary raw material, destined to become the base for the impact-absorbing flooring of the future municipal playground in the hamlet of Bogno.

Information and promotional activities are planned for the coming months across the territory, with the goal of actively involving citizens in the creation of the new public park project.

“Our presence in Lombardy is growing and we are happy about it,” says Nicolas Meletiou, managing director of esosport. “The Municipality of Besozzo has fully embraced the spirit of the project: reducing waste accumulation at the collection center to choose a concrete path toward regeneration, transforming waste into secondary raw material that will return to the community as flooring for a playground. In this way, the principle of circular economy promoted by esosport is fully realized.”
