Collection of worn-out sports shoes has been launched in the municipality
December 3, 2025 – The presence of esosport, a brand of ESO RECYCLING, is growing in the Lecco area with the participation of the Municipality of Costa Masnaga in the project dedicated to collecting and recycling end-of-life sports shoes.
Esosport was founded in 2009 with the goal of reducing the accumulation of sports waste in landfills and raising awareness that recycling is not only possible, but can generate new secondary raw materials that can be used to create sports flooring, surfaces for play areas, and sports products.
It is a best practice that falls within the increasingly widespread initiatives in favor of the circular economy that the Municipality of Costa Masnaga has also embraced to enhance projects dedicated to waste separation and material recycling.
“We are proud that, in our province, besides the city of Lecco, we are the only municipality to have joined. We are adding a small piece to what is already a fairly shared and widespread reality today: waste separation. A small piece because perhaps we won’t have very large volumes, but we will have an important added value: greater environmental education. Getting people used to the fact that every material has its own recovery cycle and must be placed in a different container, adding a new type of waste to separate and recycle.” Stated Councilor Marco Fumagalli
After the placement of ESOboxes, the collection containers, throughout the municipality, the citizens of Costa Masnaga will be able to start depositing old sports shoes that are no longer usable.
“The containers have been placed in the gyms of our schools, to be accessible not only to our students, but also to all the sports associations that use them, and which can be fertile ground for sharing the ideas behind the project. In addition, there is a point available to all other citizens at one of our facilities frequented by associations, seniors, medical offices, and in any case always open to everyone.” Fumagalli continues
Collection points are located at:
Costa Forum: Via Beretta Andina, 52/54.
“Aldo Moro” Primary School: Via Guglielmo Marconi, 32.
“Don Giovanni Bosco” Middle School: Via Armando Diaz, 36.
The Municipal Administration has declared its intention to support the value of the project in the community by primarily involving children and students from schools, one primary and one middle school for a total of approximately 600 students.
“We are happy to welcome Costa Masnaga among the participating municipalities, says Nicolas Meletiou, managing director esosport. We have found in this administration a strong sensitivity toward sustainability and circular economy issues, a clear sign of commitment to involving the community in virtuous practices. Through recycling education, from a young age, a concrete approach to protecting our planet is promoted.”
Founded in 2009, the esosport brand promotes environmental sustainability in sports.
With a network of over 300 points distributed throughout Italy, esosport collects sports shoes, bicycle inner tubes and tires, tennis and padel balls that have reached the end of their life cycle.
What might simply seem like waste destined for the landfill finds new life in a different form with esosport, thanks to transformation at the ESO RECYCLING facility also dedicated to recycling sports materials.
Here new secondary raw materials are created, in the form of colored granules, which give life to new projects and initiatives in the name of environmental sustainability with the creation of sports and play flooring through the initiatives “Betty’s Garden” and “Pheidippides’ Track.”
